Abstract
Church Historiography, and the reinterpretation of South African Church History, is a subject, which in the recent past had been debated, by colleagues and historians on various occasions. Aspects such as the relationship between church and general history and the various tendencies in Church Historiography are some of the most important issues, which are up for discussion. Another important aspect in South African Church History in particular, is the perspective from which church history had been described during the past decades. Special thought has been given to the presuppositions of scientists in this academic activity. The appeal that is being made in this regard is that South African Church Historiography should not be seen and practised as separate histories of various denominations, but as a unit, which is being described from various perspectives.
