dc.description.abstractRecombinant DNA technology is playing an increasingly important role in diagnostic confirmation, carrier detection and the prenatal diagnosis of inherited disorders. This article summarizes current progress in the application of this technology to clinically important genetic conditions in South Africa and outlines its potential role in the future practice of medical genetics in this country.
