H SUMMARY : Female students face particular constraints when pursuing postgraduate degrees. The challenges they may face regarding the timing of their studies in relation to lifeline events such as childbearing years and the constant tension between academic and family responsibilities is a reality across the world. Therefore, women’s education is shaped by personal and structural gendered forces, including family, economic and workplace issues. The culmination of such studies I have found to be a careeraltering experience, which develops personal resiliency, but tests your reserves for relationships and responsibilities. This chapter discusses the educational pathways of postgraduate female students in higher education, possible barriers and sources of support.en_ZA
