Abstract
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Lanchester models are mathematical representations of the attrition which occurs during military battles. The underlying assumptions of the Lanchester models are of prime importance and are discussed in this study. Although the deterministic approach to warfare is considered to be the main focus, some important results concerning the stochastic view of warfare are briefly given. The validation of any attrition model is gravely restricted by the shortage of historical data as well as the quality of available data. Attempts to validate Lanchester models are discussed. A wide spectrum of variations on the original models that were published in 1914 by F. W. Lanchester has come into existence. In this study two of the above mentioned variations are discussed and evaluated from a mathematical viewpoint.
