Dept. of Agricultural Economics.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: With this study research has been done into the current financing system which serves white agriculture in the Republic of South Africa and the extent to which this system satisfies the financing requirements of the agricultural producer. In the first place attention has been paid to the financing requirements of the agricultural producers, of the agricultural producer, as well as the cost involved. The current economic and financial position of the agricultural sector and the reasons for this situation have also been discussed. Secondly, this study describes the current sources of credit available to agriculture and also examines whether the credit facilities available through these sources meet the requirements of agricultural producers. In the third instance the study discusses guidelines and principles relevant to the affording of credit and the creation of a rational financing policy. The current system of agricultural financing has also been evaluated in terms of norms, especially designed for the evaluation of policy. The process of financial mediation in the South African agricultural financing system has also been critically evaluated. Adaptations essential to the improvement of the effectiveness of the current system have also been outlined.
