It can lead to various sequelae collectively referred to as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs). These disorders are directly linked to the negative health behaviour of alcohol consumption during pregnancy (Riley et al. 2011:73-80). Ideally it should, therefore, be preventable through positive health behaviour.
