    ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Die Stoetmeester displays many characteristics of the traditional farm novel which played a very important role in the development of prose in Afrikaans. Traditional farm novels describe traditional farming methods, picture and idyllic reality and have a chronological structure. The father figure dominates and traditions are very important in the lives of the characters. These traditional characteristics are rejuvenated in the "new" farm novel.
