- ItemNew Nigeria : a socioreligious dimension of prophetic envisioning(AOSIS Publishing, 2018) Anthony, IshayaGlobally, the quest to create societies free of corruption and violence that foster appreciation for human dignity and quality of life is highly envisioned and desired. Similarly, the current political, economic, religious and social tension in Nigeria calls for deep and courageous reflections about the country’s future in the League of Nations. These social realities have created a quest for a new society of justice, love, freedom and faithful stewardship in governance. Thus, this article portrays a song by Solomon Lange, titled ‘New Nigeria’, as prophetic within the tradition of prophetic envisioning. Also, it interprets the intersections between the prophetic dimension of this song and the sociocultural realities in Nigeria. Specifically, it argues that amidst Nigerians’ aspirations and struggles to build a new and corruption-free society, this song can contribute to raising national awareness that stimulates alternative consciousness, which invites the citizenry to courageously and tirelessly hope and work towards its actualisation.
- ItemProphetic preaching in a context of corruption in Nigeria : a practical theological investigation(Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2017-03) Anthony, Ishaya; Cilliers, Johan; Forster, Dion Angus; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of Theology. Dept. of Practical Theology and Missiology.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Globally, the quest to create corrupt free societies which promote human dignity and the quality of life is greatly envisioned and desired. While highly critical, most efforts in the fight against corruption, especially in Nigeria, tend to get hindered and absorbed in inaccessible policies. This intensifies violence, injustice and pauperisation. Nevertheless, using the ‘conflict paradigm’ within a socio-ecclesiological perspective, this study demonstrates that preaching, especially prophetic preaching, has the tenacity to foster appreciation and support for courageous collaboration and behavioral transformation of individauls and institutions that will strenghten the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Therefore, calls for prophetic pronouncement, prophetic exemplary life style, and prophetic imagination.
