J.; Stellenbosch University. Faculty of AgriSciences. Department of Conservation Ecology & Entomology.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The population developpment of Ditylenchus destructor was studied in six groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) genotypes. They were all good hosts for the nematode, but differences in host suitability were observed. Population numbe were further influenced by length of growing season, age of host plant at time of infection, and initial population density. Survival of the parasite was studied in the soil and the different plant parts. In addition to groundnuts other host plants were tested. None were good hosts, but sufficient nematodes remained in the soil to cause damage to groundnuts the following season.
