ENGLISH ABSTRACT : This thesis aims to make a contribution to the field of teaching German as a
Foreign Language. Based on Dobstadt and Riedner’s theoretical concept of
“didactics of literariness” (“Didaktik der Literarizität”) and considering Kramsch’s
concept of a “symbolic competence”, it provides didactical suggestions for
teaching the novels Tschick and Bilder deiner großen Liebe by Wolfgang
Herrndorf on a B1 – B2 level. The goal is to develop the learner’s understanding of
the complexity of language, to make them aware of the literariness of literary texts
and to gain a broader understanding of language itself.
