Dept. of Educational Psychology.Until the present time very little research has been done on the process of the development of an occupational identity among black adolescents. The attainment of an own identity can be considered to be one of the crucial development tasks of adolescence. For an adolescent it is important to know who he is, what he can do and what he will be in the future. In other words, the most important problem preoccupying an adolescent is thus finding an answer to the question "Who am I?" The development of an occupational identity is considered to be one of the most important areas of identity development contributing to the attainment of an own identity. The attainment of an occupational identity during adolescence is important for the adolescent's future role in the world of work and a concomitant productive life. Therefore to complete the search for an occupational identity the adolescent must find answers to the questions, "What can I do?" and "What shall I do?".
